2013 Subaru Legacy unveiled at Beijing Auto Show

Subaru
Subaru automobiles' maker Fuji Heavy Industries (FHI) has unveiled the 2013 Legacy with Chinese specifications, at the Beijing Auto Show.

The 2013 Subaru Legacy is powered by horizontally-opposed boxer engine, which the company says provides improved fuel efficiency by combining the light and compact second-generation Lineartronic (CVT).

The company has worked on the exterior of the vehicle and provided a hexagon grille, while the vehicle height was raised by 60mm, and the front bumper, side spoiler and rear bumper featuring chrome parts were newly designed.

Electronic parking brake and SI-DRIVE switches were relocated inside the Legacy 2013 for better usability, said the company.

The vehicle is equipped with bumper beam reinforcement and the knee airbag for a driver, to ensure crash safety performance.

It also features the vehicle dynamics control (VDC) with new control system that has improved its hazard avoidance capability, said the company.

CAR TIP OF THE WEEK: Use wheel cleaner.

Af

Your car’s wheels are down there on the road, taking the brunt of road dirt.Add in the dust that wears off your brake pads and you’ve got a formula for stains that are tough to remove when you wash your vehicle. Car-washing liquid won’t do the job.You need a wheel cleaner specifically formulated to remove such stains. Be sure to buy the correct formulation. Some cleaners are designed for metal wheels, and others for painted or clear-coated wheels.

How Subaru Is Making Cruise Control Smart

Subarueyesight

Ever veer out of your lane while driving, only to be jolted into noticing by the loud honk of the car you’re about to hit? What if your car could actually “see” the lines on the pavement and warn you when you start to move outside them?

That’s the idea behind Subaru’s EyeSight system, debuting at the New York Auto Show. EyeSight consists of a pair of cameras mounted on either side of the rear-view mirror. They act as a kind of always-on extra pair of eyes for the driver, helping out when, for whatever reason, danger may be imminent.

The cameras constantly scan the road and the traffic around you, so the system is smart enough to know when you’re on the highway and when you’re in a parking lot.

There are three main benefits. First is pre-collision braking, which can detect when an object suddenly appears in the path of the car. If something jumps out, and the driver doesn’t react right away, the system can apply the brakes on its own, slowing and even stopping the car.

In a similar manner, EyeSight can also improve your cruise control by always maintaining a safe distance from the vehicle in front of you. And, yes, there’s a lane-departure warning, too.

Subaru cautions that the system isn’t intended as any kind of replacement for simple driver care and paying attention to the road. Like other sensor-based driving or parking-assist systems, it’s just a convenience, and a far cry from the self-driving cars Google and others are working on.

Subaru will offer EyeSight on the 2013 Outback and Legacy models.

2013 Subaru XV Crosstrek: Stylish, Urban Crossover Debuts at New York International Auto Show

Sub

Subaru Canada, Inc. (SCI) today announced that it is expanding its line of award-winning vehicles to include the all-new 2013 XV Crosstrek. The versatile Subaru XV Crosstrek, which arrives this fall, was first shown in Canada during the auto show circuit and received an overwhelmingly positive response. The Subaru XV Crosstrek fits within an emerging sub-segment of the compact SUV category commonly known as a crossover vehicle. As such, the XV Crosstrek will nicely complement Subaru's lineup as this new addition is intended to attract new buyers looking to put Subaru on their comparison list. The Subaru XV Crosstrek also adds unique value to the ever-growing crossover segment as it's designed to thoroughly satisfy the needs of a diverse range of customers. Combining a bold five-door design with the functionality and versatility of an SUV, the XV Crosstrek blends impressive fuel efficiency, excellent handling and driving dynamics into the mix, making it especially fun to drive. The new Subaru XV Crosstrek will debut at the 2012 New York International Auto Show.

Subaru based the new XV Crosstrek on the Impreza platform, making significant changes to the chassis and body and configuring interior standard equipment and options specifically for this new model.

All 2013 Subaru XV Crosstrek models are powered by a 148-hp 2.0-litre SUBARU BOXER engine, teamed to Subaru's vaunted symmetrical full-time All-Wheel Drive via a 5-speed manual transmission or available second-generation Lineartronic CVT (continuously variable transmission).

Although official EPA fuel economy figures are not yet available, Subaru anticipates that the 2013 XV Crosstrek will achieve top-of-class fuel efficiency with manufacturer-estimated fuel economy figures of 8.2 L/100 KM city and 6.0 L/100 KM highway. In addition, the 60-litre fuel tank in the XV Crosstrek is 5 litres greater than that in the Impreza.

Thank you to the authors of these great reviews.

"It is difficult to find an automobile dealer you can have confidence in. Livermore Subaru service department has always done what I requested, completed it quickly and done correctly the first time. Bryant Kelly, the service manager, is a nice guy. I have gone to him with questions about bogus advice from different make dealerships. He offered excellent suggestions. He has never tried to "upsell" me. From my 2008 Outback purchase through today...in my opinion Livermore Subaru has been my best dealer experience ! " --BLACKDOG

Subaru gives BRZ the STi touch

Sub

Subaru has given the biggest hint yet that it is developing a hot STi version of its BRZ sports car - and there's a roadster on the way too.

Subaru global marketing manager Atoshi Atake said at a presentation of the rear-wheel drive coupe in Europe that the carmaker had received many requests about a faster version.

"Let me say this - we will certainly satisfy our customers. We are already working on a faster version."

The new range-topping model is expected to take inspiration from the STi concept revealed at last year's Los Angeles motor show.

Under the bonnet will be a more powerful version of the 147kW 2-litre flat-four cylinder boxer engine from the standard car. It is likely to produce around 190kW.

"We can definitely develop the intake system," Atake said. "There is certainly room for improvement there."

In addition, there is likely to be a freer-flowing exhaust and modifications to the engine's variable valve control system, along with an even higher rev limit of around 7500rpm. The 147kW engine revs to 7000rpm and delivers 205Nm at 6000rpm.

Subaru says that it will not turbocharge the engine as there is no space at the front of the engine bay for an intercooler.

"Plus, we want to keep turbocharging separate. It is for models like the WRX STi," said Atake.

"The same goes for four-wheel-drive. We could not make the BRZ four-wheel-drive even if we wanted to."

He also said that supercharging had been dismissed because it would make the BRZ too heavy on fuel.

As well as more power, the BRZ STi is set to weigh even less than the 1250kg standard car, thanks to racing bucket seats and potentially a carbonfibre roof and bonnet, which will further help to lower the car's already low centre of gravity.

Other tweaks will include a dramatic body kit, stiffened and lowered suspension, lighter but larger 18-inch alloy wheels and upgraded brakes.

Asked if it was possible to make a convertible version of the BRZ, Atake said: "Yes, that is certainly possible. We already have pillarless doors - you can imagine how removing the roof would make the car look."

Subaru and Toyota have a global sales target of 100,000 models a year for the BRZ and its sister car, the GT 86. The The GT 86 goes on sale in New Zealand in August and the BRZ in December. Sales have already begun in Japan where Subaru has sold 3551 models in the last two months - four times what it expected.
